Hawaii Elopement Guide: How to Elope in Hawaii
Hawaii’s a truly magical place – with eight major islands and dozens of small ones, you’ll find sandy beaches, luscious rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and some of the most jaw-dropping sunsets you’ve ever seen. There’s no better place to tie the knot, so this guide will tell you how to elope in Hawaii, and everything you need to know for an incredible adventure!
Hiring a Hawaii Elopement Planner
There’s one thing that every couple should do first (well, second – after making the decision to elope in Hawaii) that will make everything else easy! Eloping should be fun, and hiring an elopement planner ensures that it will be. My job is to make sure you get the day of your dreams, and I’ll be there to plan every part of it. Finding the perfect location, making sure you have the right paperwork, creating a timeline, and even photographing the day – I’ve got you covered!
The Best Time to Elope in Hawaii
There’s no bad time to elope in Hawaii, but there might be a best time for you. Here’s what you need to know about eloping during different seasons!
Winter in Hawaii
December is the most popular time to travel to Hawaii, because it’s a great escape from colder parts of the world. You can expect higher prices for flights and accommodation and to see more people, but this can be a really great time to elope in Hawaii, with warm weather and great whale watching and surfing. This is also the rainiest season, so be sure to bring some rain jackets or umbrellas – and keep in mind that weather can also depend a lot on which island you’re eloping on, and where on that island you are!
Spring in Hawaii
The weather is great in spring, warm but not as hot as summer! After spring break is over, April and May are usually quieter on all the islands. There are also some festivals going on, so it’s a great time to experience the culture of Hawaii!
Summer in Hawaii
Summers are the warmest, and the driest. It’s the second most popular time to visit Hawaii, after winter, and the best time for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the ocean, as the water tends to be calmer.
Fall in Hawaii
Fall is another amazing time to elope in Hawaii, with fewer crowds and great weather. Travel costs will be a little lower, and it’s easier to find some privacy.
Hawaii Elopement Locations – Where to Elope in Hawaii
The first thing you’ll need to do to narrow down your location options for eloping in Hawaii is to choose an island to tie the knot on! Each island brings something different – some are more urban, others are more natural and less developed, and there’s plenty of adventure to be found on each one.
Now, I may be a little biased, having been raised here, but I think Maui is the best island for your elopement in Hawaii! There’s no place quite like it – and for your ceremony location, there are stunning sandy beaches, rugged rocky cliff sides, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain ridges.

How Much Does it Cost to Elope in Hawaii?
Budgeting is important for any elopement, but how much does it cost to elope in Hawaii? This can vary a lot, depending on what you want to do, where you stay, and other factors, but here’s an idea of what you can expect!
I offer all-inclusive Hawaii elopement packages that have everything you need – photography, planning, florals, and more. These start at $4,500, and my couples spend an average of $6,000.
With that, there are a few other things that you’ll need to budget for when it comes to how much it costs to elope in Hawaii, like travel and accommodations, wedding attire, and rings. The costs of all of these vary a lot, and the great thing about eloping is being able to prioritize what’s important to you!
How to Get Legally Married When You Elope in Hawaii
There’s some paperwork required when you elope in Hawaii, if you want to be legally married! You need a marriage license from the state, but the process is pretty easy. You can apply online, but you’ll need to go to an office in person to pick up the marriage license. Both of you need to be there with IDs, and it costs $65.
The marriage license needs to be picked up within 30 days of the ceremony, and once you get it, there’s no waiting period – so you can use it right away. Be sure to do this a few days in advance to save yourself some stress!

But on the actual elopement day, I’ll be your photographer! You’ll also have a day of coordinator who will make sure that everything is going according to plan and keep things running smoothly.
