What to do on your Maui Honeymoon
You made it to Maui! Now, what do you do? Here’s a brief overview of some of my most recommended things to do while you’re on Maui.
North Shore
Walk around Paia town! There are a lot of cool stores, coffee shops, and restaurants here. Some of my favorites are Better Things Cafe for coffee, Choice Health Bar for an acai bowl, and Paia Fish Market for lunch or dinner!
South Shore
The south side is known for its beaches, so you’ll never run out of a scenic place to spend your day. Some of my favorites are Polo Beach, Big Beach, Maluaka Beach, and Keawakapu Beach.
Hana
Something Maui is known for is the Road to Hana. I would say this is a must-do! If you drive the whole loop non-stop, it takes about 5 hours. If you want to stop on the way (which you totally should!) I would plan on this being a full-day trip. There are so many waterfall hikes, forests, lava tubes, and beaches you don’t want to miss. Some of my favorites are Bamboo Forest, Wai’anapanapa Black Sand Beach, Venus Pools, and Red Sand Beach. Be sure to stop at Braddah Hutts for lunch! Some of my favorite food on the island 🙂
Upcountry
One of the things I say that you definitely don’t want to miss while you’re on Maui is watching the sunrise or sunset at Haleakala – the volcano that reaches 10,023 feet. You can get up to the top for sunset without a reservation, but if you want to go for sunrise, you can try to get a reservation here.
On your way up the mountain to Haleakala, you could stop in Makawao town, just a few miles off of Haleakala highway, which has plenty of locally-owned shops and restaurants to keep you busy.
The Halemau’u hike is a switchback hike on top of the mountain. You hike into the crater a few miles, and then back out!
Waiehu / West Maui
Hands down my favorite hike on the island is the Waihe’e Ridge Hike. It’s a little more than 4 miles round trip and you hike through the deep green west side mountains.
Iao Valley is in the heart of the west side mountains – a great place to cool off in the fresh mountain water!
If you have time, you can drive the loop around the West Maui mountains – similar to the Road to Hana, but much shorter! Some of the coolest places to stop are the Olivine Pools and the Nakalele Blowhole.
West Side
Just like the south side, you’ll never run out of a beach to visit over here! Some of my favorites are Honolua Bay, Slaughterhouse Beach, and Launiupoko Beach.
